SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Two Bushnell men's golf teams went into the club house in the top two spots on Friday, earning a strong lead in their annual season-opening dual with Corban University.
 
With Friday's action taking place on true home turf at Pine Ridge Golf Club, the Beacons "A" team sits in first-place after shooting a 295, earning a four-stroke lead over the "B" team at 299. Corban's "A" team, meanwhile, shot a 302, followed by their "B" team at 322.
 
It was all Bushnell as the Beacons owned eight of the top-11 spots. Peyton Wiedenmann (pictured) sits alone in first-place after shooting a one-under 71 while four players are tied for second with 74. They are Connor Cameron, Cody Adams, and Luke Fenner for the Beacons and Isaac Laro for the Warriors.
 
Including individual golfers, Bushnell had 15 golfers in action on Friday and 12 post scores in the 70's.
 
First-Year Head Coach Nathan Weidenmann was very complementary of the Bushnell effort on Friday. He said, "Everybody was very excited to get the season kicked off today. We had a few jitters early on and I felt like the team settled in reasonably well about six holes in. I was super pleased with the body of work, and having both teams post sub-300 scores is a reflection of the work the guys are putting in and their overall talent level.
 
"The pin placements were very challenging today. We talk a lot about shots-to-spots and trying to stay below the hole. As we gain experience, this will come easier. They all deserve credit for what they did today. They are doing what the coaching staff is asking of them and I am excited to see their continued growth."
 
The tournament will conclude on Saturday, shifting to Blue River, Oregon, where they teams will compete at Tokatee Golf Course.
