LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Bushnell men's track & field team finished with their highest point total in nine years and earned a sixth-place finish at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships presented by U.S. Bank.
The Beacons were also selected as the winner of the CCC Team Sportsmanship Award, voted on by the CCC Coaches.Â
Â
To nobody's surprise, the Beacons scored 58 of their 66 points across five jumps events, capped off on Saturday by a Cascade Conference Championship in the high jump for
Taylor Jackson. The junior claimed the title as the first to land a 2.00m clearance (6-06.75) as he becomes Bushnell's second consecutive CCC Champion in the event.
Â
Bushnell showed plenty of strength in the high jump, scoring 22 points in the event as
Jermaine Schexnayder took fourth (1.91m) while
Trenton Battle and
Waylon Cosby tied for fifth, also at 1.91m.
Â
Saturday also featured the Triple Jump, which included Beacon jumpers finishing third, fourth, and fifth.
Ty Kishen earned the third and final All-CCC honor of his career in third (14.71m/48-03.25), followed closely by Jermaine Schexnayer (14.56m) in fourth and
Kaleo Wellman (14.06m) in fifth.
Â
On Friday, it was the long-jumping duo of Wellman and Kishen leading the way as both claimed All-Cascade Conference honors.
Â
Wellman took second-place and earned his third-straight All-CCC honor in the event as he jumped 7.39 meters (24-03.00) in his final leap. Kishen earns his second All-CCC honor after taking third in the triple jump in 2025, earning third-place with a leap of 7.10m (23-03.50).
Â
Trenton Battle came in with another personal record at 6.94m to take sixth-place and score three points and
Maui Richmond was the fourth Beacon to qualify for the finals, taking ninth (6.74m).
Â
Senior
Brett Olmstead also provided four points for the Beacons, taking fifth-place in the Pole Vault with a final clearance at 4.51m (14-09.50).
Â
Junior
Maxwell Al-Rubaie earned a fifth-place finish as well. After twice breaking the 50-meter mark in the Hammer throw for the first times in his career, he ended on another all-time high, breaking his own school record with a toss of 51.55m (169-01). He scored four points and was just under two feet shy of the podium.
Â
On Saturday, freshman
Terren Crabb gave the Beacons one final point as he took eighth-place with a personal record throw of 55.52m (182-02) to cement himself as the fourth-furthest javelin thrower in school history.
Â
Bushnell's relay teams also provided points as the 4x100m team of Battle,
Blake Thornton,
Malachi Larson, and
Waylon Cosby took eighth-place (42.84) and the 4x400m team of John Favier-Gonzales,
Kainoa Harwood, Thornton, and Kishen took seventh (3:19.73) with the second-fastest time in school history.
Â
Al-Rubaie wasn't the only record-breaker for the Beacons on Friday as
Hudson Gerlits took down a nine-year old record in the 110-meter Hurdles, taking ninth-place with a time of 15.61. He broke the previous record of 15.63, set by Micah Jury at the conference championship in 2017.
Â
Up Next: It's on to the NAIA National Championship on May 20-21 for three Bushnell jumpers. Wellman will participate in the Long Jump while Kishen and Schexnayder are scheduled for the Triple Jump. Wellman is currently ranked fourth nationally in the long jump.
