LA GRANDE, Ore. – Scoring 21 of their 26 points in jumping events, the Bushnell men's track & field team got out to a ninth-place start at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.
Â
Leading the charge was Bushnell's long-jumping duo of junior
Kaleo Wellman and senior
Ty Kishen, who both claimed All-Cascade Conference honors.
Â
Wellman took second-place and earned his third-straight All-CCC honor in the event as he jumped 7.39 meters (24-03.00) in his final leap, only to be topped by a new meet record jump by Corban freshman Oliver Reis (7.50m) who took home the title.
Â
Kishen earns his second All-CCC honor after taking third in the triple jump in 2025, earning third-place with a leap of 7.10m (23-03.50).
Â
The Beacons weren't content with the eight points from Wellman and six from Kishen as
Trenton Battle came in with another personal record at 6.94m to take sixth-place and score three.
Maui Richmond was the fourth Beacon to qualify for the finals, taking ninth (6.74m).
Â
Senior
Brett Olmstead also provided four points for the Beacons, taking fifth-place in the Pole Vault with a final clearance at 4.51m (14-09.50).
Â
Junior
Maxwell Al-Rubaie earned a fifth-place finish as well. After twice breaking the 50-meter mark in the Hammer throw for the first times in his career, he ended on another all-time high, breaking his own school record with a toss of 51.55m (169-01). He scored four points and was just under two feet shy of the podium.
Â
Bushnell's final point came on the track as the 4x100m relay team of Battle,
Blake Thornton,
Malachi Larson, and
Waylon Cosby took eighth-place (42.84).
Â
Al-Rubaie wasn't the only record-breaker for the Beacons on Friday as
Hudson Gerlits took down a nine-year old record in the 110-meter Hurdles, taking ninth-place with a time of 15.61. He broke the previous record of 15.63, set by Micah Jury at the conference championship in 2017.
Â
Up Next: The Beacons, who own ninth-place with 26 points through the first 11 events, will look to add on more on Saturday as the CCC championships conclude with ten more events. The jumpers are once again anticipated to provide the fireworks. The high jump will feature defending champion
Jermaine Schexnayder and three others ranked in the top-ten. In the triple-jump, Schexnayder is also the defending champion, Kishen is ranked second, and Wellman is also seeded in the top-ten.
