CORVALLIS, Ore. – A busy weekend for the Bushnell men's and women's track & field teams kicked off in style on Friday at the Oregon State High Performance meet as two athletes joined the ranks of CCC qualifiers, one school record was taking down, and a few all-time performances were on tap.
Â
The men's team found two new tickets punched for the conference championship with both coming in the 200m.
Malachi Larson (pictured) ran a new PR of 22.22 to earn his spot, while
Kainoa Harwood wasn't far behind at 22.43, also a personal best.
Â
The women came close to a new qualification as freshman
Viktoriia Gabrio came within two centimeters of the long jump standard at 4.97m (16-03.75). The long jump crew had plenty more magic on Friday, led by
Cyan Kelso-Reynolds (pictured) who took third-place and landed an all-time best 5.66m (18-07.00). She not only posted the second-best throw in school history, but the third-best CCC jump of the season.
Sienna Lillebo also had a PR in the event at 5.21m.
Â
Also landing a spot at No. 2 in the Bushnell record book was freshman
Janaiya Miller, who tossed the discus 40.19m (131-10).
Â
Continuing an incredible junior campaign was junior
Kaleo Wellman who posted a 7.36m (24-01.75) in the long jump, another NAIA "B" standard distance for the national qualifier.
Â
Finally junior
Maxwell Al-Rubaie had a strong start to his weekend as he nearly broke the 50-meter mark for the first time in the Hammer throw. Landing a best toss of 49.94m (163-10), Al-Rubaie broke his own school record and, in the process, also managed to break his hammer.
Â
Up Next: A busy final weekend of the regular season will continue on Saturday. The team will continue the OSU High Performance meet while others travel north to compete in the Linfield Open. Â
