AZUSA, Calif./PORTLAND, Ore. – The Bushnell men's track & field team continues to steamroll toward the finish line for the 2026 season, and had an impressive split weekend, collecting five new CCC qualifications, a school record, and countless strong performances at the Brian Clay Invitational and the Larry Byerly Invitational.
Â
BRIAN CLAY INVITATIONAL (Azusa Pacific University)
Â
The most impressive moments for the Beacons in California didn't feature conference qualifiers or school records, although those would also come. The best performances came from the usual suspects as jumpers
Kaleo Wellman and
Ty Kishen hit NAIA standards in their events.
Â
Wellman missed his own school record in the Long Jump by just two centimeters and was the top collegiate finisher in the Invitational, landing a 7.62m (25-00.00) jump, and hitting the NAIA's "A" standard once again.
Â
For Kishen, his weekend was highlighted by a fifth-place finish in the triple jump, behind only three jumpers from UCLA and one from the Canadian national team. His second NAIA "B" standard of the season came in at 14.71m (48-03.25) and was the third-longest jump in school history. Kishen then closed his weekend with a new personal record in the Long Jump, hitting 7.18m (23-06.75).
Â
Also in the triple jump,
Jermaine Schexnayder continued his road to recovery from an early-season injury, posting a season-best 14.43m (47-04.25) jump. It was a Bushnell all-time top-ten mark, and still 18 inches off of his own school record, showing how much more room he can continue to climb this season.
Â
One school record was broken over the weekend and that belonged to junior
Maxwell Al-Rubaie, who toppled his own standard for the second time this season, posting a 49.20m (161-05).
Â
Friday also featured a new CCC qualification on the men's side as Freshman
Waylon Cosby cleared six feet in the high jump (1.83m) to join three of his teammates on the list for the conference championship. He nearly punched a second CCC ticket in the 100m as he scored a season-best 11.13 and missed the conference qualifying number by just one-one hundredth of a second.
Â
LARRY BYERLY INVITATIONAL (Lewis and Clark College)
Â
Three conference tickets were punched in Portland, including two for freshman
Trenton Battle in his collegiate debut. He qualified in both the 200m (22.55) and the Long Jump (6.48m) where he became the sixth Beacon to hit the conference standard.
Â
The other mark was in the Triple Jump where
Elliot Nofziger became the fourth Beacon qualifier at 12.24m (40-02.00). Â
Â
UNIVERSITY OF OREGON TEAM INVITATIONAL
Â
Also this weekend,
Brett Olmstead competed at the Oregon Team Invitational, taking fourth-place in the Pole Vault with a 4.45m. It was the second-highest clearance of his career and it ranked fifth in school history.
Â
Up Next: After a weekend off, the Beacons will return to action on May 1 and 2 as they will once again split between two meets, competing at the Oregon State High Performance meet and the Linfield Open.
