MONMOUTH, Ore. – A rain-soak weekend made it difficult on the Beacons as they competed at the Western Oregon University John Knight Twilight, but three Beacons were still able to add CCC qualifiers and Freshman
Janaiya Miller (pictured) broke a school record.
Â
Miller, who continues to prove to be intimidated by nobody, earned a second-place finish in the Discus with a School-Record throw of 41.93 meters (137-06). She takes the title from teammate Leah Scheiwe who set the previous record last season. Scheiwe, for her efforts, was just one spot behind Miller in third-place with a toss of 37.81m (124-00), the eighth-best throw in school history.
Â
On Friday, Makayla Parrish became the sixth Bushnell woman to qualify for the CCC Triple Jump, posting a season-best time of 9.68 meters (31-09.25), just two CM off of her personal best. The event also featured new PRs for
Aliyah Malone (10.71m) and
Viktoriia Gabrio (10.55m).
Â
Then on Saturday, Freshman
Annika Kimball added her name to the 3000m Steeplechase qualifiers as she finished in 12 minutes, 53.08 seconds. She joins
Cadence Smith as the second Beacon steeplechaser at conference. Smith also earned a season-best on Saturday at 12:33.83.
Finally, in the 400m, Freshman
Sienna Lillebo posted the best Beacon time in three years, running a 1:00.23 to qualify for conference in her second event (Long Jump).Â
Â
Up Next: Next week is a big one for the Beacons, who will send a number of elite athletes to Southern California as they will compete in the Brian Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University. Bushnell will also be competing at the Larry Byerly Invitational hosted by Lewis & Clark in Portland. Â
