RESULTS | CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Bushnell track & field team will once again be well represented at the NAIA National Championships as two Beacon jumpers qualified over the weekend at the Pacific Northwest Invitational, hosted by Oregon State University.
Â
Friday started off with senior
Ty Kishen, earning his second event victory in as many weeks as he won the Triple Jump competition, hitting the NAIA National "B" qualification standard in the process. His new personal record jump of 14.76m (48-05.25) was the second-best jump in school history and helped him win the event by just over three inches.
Â
Less than 24 hours later, junior
Kaleo Wellman (pictured) punched his ticket with a record-breaking performance in the long jump. Wellman smashed his own school record, winning the event with a leap of 7.64 meters (25-00.75). Breaking 25-feet for the first time in his career, Wellman posted the best jump in the NAIA this season and cleared the NAIA "A" standard by over eight inches.
Â
A handful of new Cascade Conference qualifiers were also earned over the weekend, including a pair for
Blake Thornton, who qualified in both the 200m (22.38) and 400m (49.86), taking sixth-place in the latter.
Â
David Johnson joined the qualifiers in the long jump (6.45m) while
Jermaine Schexnayder hit the standard in the triple jump (13.44m/44-01.25).
Maxwell Al-Rubaie also earned a personal record in the shot put and qualified for CCC in the process with a throw of 12.58 meters (41-03.25).
Â
"We had a really good weekend," said Head Coach
Kyle Will, "and we are excited now for a week of rest for everybody so we can come back and finish out the rest of the season strong."
Â
Up Next: The Beacons will take some time off for Spring Break and return to action on April 4 as they travel to McMinnville, Oregon to compete in Linfield University's Jen Boyman Invitational. Â
