EUGENE, Ore. - Bushnell Athletics proudly announces
Gabriella Montes and
Aliyah Malone as the Papa Johns Players of the Week.
Sophomore
Gabriella Montes allowed just one goal and collected 11 saves as the Beacons went 1-0-1 in CCC action, jumping into ninth-place in the CCC and keeping their postseason hopes alive. Bushnell started the week with a 1-1 tie against Southern Oregon in which Montes made four saves. It was the Beacons first point-scoring result against SOU in eight years, breaking a seven-game losing streak. The following day, Bushnell defeated Oregon Tech 2-0 and Montes earned seven saves enroute to her third shutout of the season.
Sophomore
Aliyah Malone had a huge weekend in the front row, making the first back-to-back starts of her career as the Beacons went 2-0 with home victories over Northwest and Evergreen. Bushnell had to come from behind to defeat the Eagles in five sets on Friday, thanks in large part to Malone who earned career-highs with seven kills and nine blocks. She followed that effort with five blocks on Saturday in a sweep of the Geoducks.
As a Papa Johns Players of the Week, Montes and Malone will receive a free large pizza from Papa Johns.Â
