EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell scored twice as a result of penalty kicks on Saturday afternoon as they earned a 2-0 victory over Oregon Tech, staying alive in their bid for a CCC tournament berth.
Â
Playing their final home game of the season, the Beacons (5-6-3, 4-5-1 CCC) moved into a tie for eighth-place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with two games remaining and did it on the strength of their defense and the stellar play of sophomore goalkeeper
Gabriella Montes. Montes faced seven shots-on-goal and saved all of them to pick up her third clean sheet of the season.

Head Coach
Toni Malone said, "I am really proud of the team for stepping up today. They came out physical, ready to compete, and determined to play for each other and for our seniors. That was something we talked about as a team and I am proud of how they responded."
Â
The Beacons, who outshot the Owls (4-9-2, 1-7-2) 21-14 in the game, got on the board in the 32nd minute when sophomore
Elidia Cervantes Carlos scored on a penalty kick for the eventual game-winning goal.
Â
Late in the second half the Beacons were awarded another PK and with under three minutes to play, freshman
Brielle Engle found the rebound after her attempt was blocked by the keeper and tapped in the empty netter for the insurance.
Â
While it was underclassmen making waves on the field, Saturday was also Senior Night for the Beacons. During a ceremony at halftime on the men's soccer game, Bushnell honored
Anette Avila,
Mia Morales,
Brooke Richardson,
Laney Sullivan,
Ellie Winkelman,
Leslie Monjaras, and
Adrie Lader, who played in their final home games for the Beacons.
Â
"Our seniors have meant so much to this program and have been such an important part of our success this year," said Malone. "Their leadership has been instrumental in helping move this team forward and the impact they have made goes far beyond the field. We are incredibly grateful for each of them and they will be dearly missed next year."
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell has two games remaining in the regular season, hitting the road for Montana to close things out. They start on Thursday at undefeated Rocky Mountain College (9-0-4, 7-0-2) at 5:00 pm (MT). Â
