Beacons Earn Rare Tie with Southern Oregon

EUGENE, Ore.  – For just the third time in history and first time since 2018, the Bushnell women's soccer team came away with a positive result against Cascade Conference power Southern Oregon University, earning a 1-1 draw.

The Beacons (4-6-3, 3-5-1 CCC) showed a little resiliency on Friday, holding the Raiders defensively, and responded to a late deficit as they earned the equalizer with under eight minutes to play.

Head Coach Toni Malone said, "I am really proud of the way the girls stepped up today. They were disciplined, focused, and committed to executing our game plan. They stayed organized, played for each other, and battled throughout the match."

Once again it was Ohu Miles providing the Beacons offense, moving into the team lead with her fifth goal of the season on a free-kick from 19-yards out that deflected off an SOU defender and into the back of the net.

"Ohu has been a huge part of our success on set pieces," said Malone, "and it was great to see her find the back of the net for the second straight game."

It was a solid response for the Beacons, after allowing Southern to go ahead 1-0 in the 64th minute as a pass from Abby McKean found Tori Lasch in the box who chipped it in.

The final shot count was 17-13 in favor of SOU, but the teams combined for just eight shots on goal as Bushnell keeper Gabriella Montes (pictured) made four saves.

Malone said, "I want to give a lot of credit to the women who came off the bench today. Anetta Avila came on in the first half and was fantastic. Laney Sullivan, Mia Morales, and Leslie Monjaras all made a big impact as well. They brought great energy and helped change the game for us. It was a true team effort and I couldn't be more proud of this group."

Bushnell is now 0-20-3 all-time against Southern Oregon with Friday's draw breaking an eight-game losing streak in the series.

UP NEXT:  The Beacons return to action on Saturday and will play their final home game of the season against Oregon Tech (4-8-2, 1-6-2), kicking off at 4:30 pm.
