SEATTLE, Wash. – Junior
Kaleo Wellman will return to the NAIA Indoor National Championships, after qualifying on Friday in the Long Jump at the UW Invitational.
Wellman cleared the NAIA's "A" standard by four centimeters, taking fourth place at 7.31 meters (23'11.75"). He was the second collegiate finisher behind the winner from the Huskies and now sits at No. 11 on the NAIA performance list.
Wellman will now have the opportunity to return to the national championship where he was the NAIA's national runner-up a year ago.
Three other Beacons also earned personal records on Friday, led by
Blake Thornton who posted career bests in both the 200m (23.08) and the 400m (51.67). Senior Jahlin Green earned a PR in the 60m (7.32) while his sister
Aniya Green claimed her own personal record in the 400m (1:05.02).
Among Friday's other competitors was
Jermaine Schexnayder who took sixth-place in the high jump with a clearance at 1.91 meters (6'3.25").
On Saturday, Schexnayder and
Ty Kishen closed out the weekend for the Beacons with the triple jump invitational. Schexnayder posted the fifth-best jump in school history, taking sixth-place with a leap of 14.19m (46'6.75"). Kishen earned a new indoor PR in the event with a 13.85m leap (45'5.25").
UP NEXT: Next weekend the Beacons will be in action in Spokane, Washington, competing at the Riverfront Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
