EUGENE, Ore. – Bushnell volleyball head coach
Jason Corwin picked up his 200th career coaching victory on Saturday afternoon as he guided the Beacons to a 25-19, 25-25, 25-16 victory over Warner Pacific University.
Â
The Beacons (7-5, 1-1 CCC) hit .213 in the match and used their serving strength to put down 14 aces as they kept the Knights out of reach for most of the afternoon. Warner Pacific (0-3, 0-2) hit .077, but matched the Beacons in blocking, 6-6, and held a 32-26 margin in digs. It was 19 unforced errors that plaqued the visitors in the loss.
Â
Bushnell was led by
Hailey Heider who exploded for eight kills and a .700 attack percentage in the second set before finishing with 14 kills, three aces and four digs. "I am really proud of the team for staying at our level of play," said Heider. "I thought we utilized all of our attackers and showed up with 14 aces!"
Â
Amyah Semau added seven kills while freshman
Aliyah Malone made her collegiate debut with five kills. Malone said, "I am so proud of our team today and the way we trusted each other and communicated both on and off the court. We stayed connected, kept our heads on and made adjustments together without losing focus.
Â
Kailey Shirley earned a team-high eight digs and
Katie Belitz led all players with 15 assists. "Super happy after our sweep," said Belitz. "Everyone did their job, we racked up points, and the work we have been putting in really showed."
Â
Warner Pacific was led by seven kills from Tayah-Anne Toa, and 14 Assists from Audrey Histed. Angel Camagay earned a match-high 12 digs and Nicole Nikiforets led all players with five blocks.
Â
For Corwin, his 200th win is his 128th during his eight seasons with the Beacons. He also has 72 wins which were accumulated during his time as the head coach for CCC Rival Oregon Tech.
Â
"There is no other coach more deserving of 200 wins," said Assistant Coach McKenna Northern, who played five seasons with the Beacons from 2018-2022. "The effort that Jason puts into this program is admirable. He strives not only just to have a winning program but to have the best possible culture for the girls that he recruits. He is continuously trying to learn new coaching strategies that he can use to improve the athlete play and mindset. I have had the honor of working with Jason for eight years and the amount of knowledge that I have acquired is something I will cherish forever. Congratulations Coach, I can't wait for the next milestone!"
Â
Coach Corwin said, "Milestones are about the people who make them happen. I am honored to share this milestone with the best assistant coach in the country. Thank you, Marlee! I share this with
Makenna Northern, who got so many wins as a player and is now helping us get more as an assistant coach. Thank you to all the players past and present who have contributed to 200 wins. As coaches we are merely a reflection of the people around us. Thank you everyone."
