Beacons Post 17 Aces in Sweep of Geoducks

EUGENE, Ore. – Flirting with a 13-year old school record for the second time this season, the Bushnell volleyball team applied service pressure all evening on Friday, collecting 17 aces on their way to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 sweep of The Evergreen State College.

"We did our job tonight," said Head Coach Jason Corwin. "Serving was on point. I would like to see us terminate more balls in transition going forward, but we will bank this win and start getting ready for another good team tomorrow afternoon."

The Beacons (8-5, 2-1 CCC), who had 18 aces against Hope International last month, once again came within striking distance of the school record, set in 2012 with 19 aces against Multnomah. Bushnell got a season-high seven aces from senior Hailey Heider and a career-high five from Katie Belitz who strung together four straight early in the second set.

Bushnell hit just .159 in the match but held the Geoducks to 21 kills and 19 errors as they posted a .021 kill percentage. The Beacons were aced just one time themselves, but were out-blocked by the Geoducks (0-7, 0-3) 5-3. Evergreen also held a 51-46 advantage in digs.

Leading the offense was Heider, collecting a match-high 13 kills while Teagan Dixon and Soliel Sands added five apiece. Belitz led the team with 15 assists and Kailey Shirley added a team-high 12 digs.

The Geoducks were led by Ashley Walker Cambell, collecting seven kills and 13 digs. Amaialyne Cepeda earned a match-high 18 digs and Zofia Formella led all players with three blocks.

UP NEXT: The Beacons close out their current homestand on Saturday at 4:00 when they take on Northwest University (7-2, 1-2).
