KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The brutal gauntlet of the Cascade Collegiate Conference showed once again how difficult it could be on Saturday as the Beacons were upset in five sets at Oregon Tech, 15-25, 26-24, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13.
The Beacons (11-7, 5-3 CCC) were coming into the day riding a two-game road winning streaks against NAIA Top-25 teams, but succumbed to a difficult defensive night from an Owls team that collected 15 blocks and out-dug the Beacons 68-55.
Head Coach
Jason Corwin said, "This was a disappointing loss to a team that passed and blocked well. We didn't make the plays when we needed them and they did. We can't dwell on it as we have to get ready for another set of good teams this coming weekend."
The Beacons hit .216 in the match and held a 65-58 margin in kills and collected six service aces. The outside hitting duo of
Amyah Semau and
Hailey Heider led the charge with a pair of double-doubles, combining for 26 kills and 24 digs.
Leah Agost added 13 kills and four blocks, while freshman
Aliyah Malone led the Beacons with six blocks.
Katie Belitz did her part, earning 27 assists and adding two aces and five kills on six dump attempts.
Emma Fa'alogo followed with 26 assists and nine digs while
Kailey Shirley earned a team-best 14 digs.
The Owls (8-7, 2-6 CCC) were led by a 15-kill effort from Savanna Sterck while Abigail Sorensen earned 24 digs.
UP NEXT: It doesn't get any easier for the Beacons who will take on No. 17 Lewis-Clark State on Friday at 6:00 pm. The Warriors (9-2, 6-2) were undefeated before falling to No. 12 College of Idaho and No. 1 Eastern Oregon this weekend.
