ASHLAND, Ore. – Sophomore
Kaleo Wellman earned All-CCC honors on Friday as he finished second in the Long Jump, leading the Bushnell men's track & field team on the opening day of the 2025 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championships.
Â
It was a dramatic end for Wellman and British Columbia sophomore Lyle Lo. Lo, the defending conference champion, held the event lead from his very first attempt at 7.19 meters, only to see Wellman tie him on his penultimate jump.
Â
In the final round, Wellman landed a 7.28m (23-10.75) to take the lead, only to see Lo repeat as champion with a final leap of 7.49 meters. Wellman earned eight points for the Beacons, and had the best mark ever at the conference championship with the fifth-longest jump in school history.
Â
Also scoring points for the Beacons in the long jump were
Ty Kishen in sixth place (6.68m/21-11.00) and
Hunter Reininger in seventh (6.53m/21-05.25).
Â
Bushnell's only other points on Friday came from
Hudson Gerlits in the 110m Hurdles as the freshman took sixth-place with a new personal best time of 16.24 seconds, and from the 4x100 relay which scored one point for their eighth-place finish.
Â
Also highlighting Friday's competition was Sophomore
Maxwell Al-Rubaie who once again cracked his own school record in the hammer throw, this time uncorking a 43.67-meter toss (143-03) to improve his mark by over five feet. He made the event finals for the first time and finished ninth.Â
Â
Blake Thornton had a strong showing for the Beacons in the 400m as he popped a 50.37 run, tying for the ninth-best mark in school history and the fastest lap for the Beacons in four years.
Â
With 17 points scored, the Beacons currently sit in eighth place.
Â
NEXT: It will be a busy Saturday to close out the CCC Championships with 17 men in action and plenty of projected points.
