AZUSA, Calif. – Sophomore
Kaleo Wellman continued his historic season on Friday with another school record, taking second-place in the Long Jump at the Bryan Clay Invitational.
Â
One of Southern California's most prestigious events, featuring over 1000 athletes from across the world, the Bryan Clay Invite, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, included 45 competitors in the long jump.
Â
Seeded 19th going into the event, Wellman took second-place and was the top non-NCAA Division I finisher as he came in nine inches behind the winner, Charles Godfred from the University of Minnesota. He defeated the rest of the field by at least six inches.
Â
His final jump of his flight came in at 7.42 meters (24-04.25), beating his own school-record by one centimeter, and improving his NAIA "A" qualification. Wellman ranks No. 8 in the NAIA in the event. Â
Â
Also competing at the event was junior
Ty Kishen who took 33rd in the long jump (6.41m). Kishen also competed in the triple jump, but fouled on all three attempts.
