NEWBERG, Ore. – The Bushnell outdoor track & field teams saw two school records fall on Saturday at the Rich Allen Classic, hosted by George Fox University. Eight men and six women punched tickets to the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship as well, while recent NAIA Indoor All-American
Kaleo Wellman landed an Outdoor qualifier.
One week after claiming a runner-up finish at the Indoor Long Jump championship, Wellman quickly set his sights on the NAIA Outdoor championships as well, landing a "B" qualifying mark as he won the Long Jump with a leap of 7.33 meters (24-00.75). He was the best collegiate finisher by nearly two-and-a-half feet, and missed the NAIA "A" standard by less than two inches.
Wellman wasn't the only jumper to earn an invite to the conference championships.
Elliot Nofziger cleared 1.81m (5-11.25) in the high jump for the ninth-best mark in school history while
Ty Kishen (13.98m/45-10.50) and
Hunter Reininger (12.16m/39-10.75) qualified in the triple-jump. Kishen was the top collegiate finisher, and took second-place overall.
Brett Olmstead also qualified in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 4.15m (13-7.25).
The other school record was claimed by
Maxwell Al-Rubaie, toppling his own mark in the hammer with a 41.22m (135-03) heave.
The final two CCC standards for the men were hit on the track and both came in the 400-meter Hurdles.
Kian Lamb made his Bushnell debut with a third-place finish, coming in at 59.43 seconds.
Logan Gant also qualified with a time of 1:01.05.
For the women,
Jordan Lauinger made her first opportunity to qualify for conference a good one on Saturday in the 400-meter hurdles, taking second place with a time of 1:10.53 to out-pace the CCC standard by a full second.
Cyan Kelso-Reynolds nearly added a track qualification of her own in the 100m, missing the standard by just two hundredths of a second, taking fourth-place at 12.90 seconds. Kelso-Reynolds did punch a ticket to the conference championship in the long jump with another fourth-place finish, hitting 5.20 meters (17-00.75).
Two qualified in the triple jump, led by a fourth-place finish from
Ellie Ekwere at 9.96 meters (32-08.25). Mikayla Parrish followed closely in sixth, finishing at 9.66m (31-08.50).
The final two qualifiers for the women came from a pair of veterans in the heavy implements. Junior
Leah Schiewe took fourth-place in the discus with a toss of 36.53m (119-10). In the shot put, it was senior
Libby Mathis making her season debut with a sixth-place heave landing at 10.99m (36-00.75).
Head Coach
Kyle Will said, "It was a long meet, but we had an amazing day all around in sprints, throws, and jumps. The team definitely showed some toughness today and it was nice to get a few conference marks out of the way. We are in a good spot and excited for what else will unfold this season."
