SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – A two-hitter from
Max Chapman set the tone for a Saturday double-header sweep as the Bushnell baseball team completed a perfect weekend against Corban University that saw the Beacons out-score the Warriors, 31-8.
Â
Behind a sturdy pitching weekend that saw just the second complete game in program history, the Bushnell offense was dominant as well. Leading the way was
Will Hudler, who had as many hits on Saturday (6) as Corban did as a team.
Ethan Stacy added in a 4-for-4 performance in the morning session as well.
Â
"This was an awesome series sweep," said Head Coach
Jamie Womack. "Every game is important and I thought the guys stayed tough and competed throughout. Great outings today from
Max Chapman and
Blake Stavros and it was also really great to see
Kai Keamo take a big step forward. Will and Ethan had big weekends and
Dylan Carson showed out big today on both sides of the ball."
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 10, Corban 0 (7 Innings)
Â

For just the second time in the four-year history of the Bushnell baseball program, a pitcher went the distance as
Max Chapman (2-0) put on a clinic for the Beacons, allowing just two hits and striking out six batters for the shutout.
Â
The win helped the Beacons improve to 7-2 over the first three weeks of the CCC schedule, guaranteeing they remain at least tied for first-place when the weekend concludes on Sunday. Â
Â
Chapman (pictured, left) was aided by a 13-hit game from the Bushnell offense, which had home runs from
Albert Jennings, Hudler, and Carson, and scored in all but one inning.
Â
Jennings jump started the offense with a two-run blast in the bottom of the first and Hudler followed with a two-run shot of his own in the second, his team-leading sixth of the season.
Â
The Beacons scored two more in the third inning on an RBI walk to
Jordan Wilson and a single from Stacy. The fourth inning saw a solo homer from Carson, making it a 7-0 game.
Â
In the sixth, a run came home on a wild pitch and Carson (pictured, above) claimed his second RBI with a single, and Carson claimed the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning when a bases-loaded walk to the senior made it a ten-run game to invoke the run-rule.
Â
For Corban, Joshua Miyazawa and Lucas Mertlich had singles, while Jackson Young took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over the first two innings.
Â
GAME TWO: Bushnell 6, Corban 3
Â

A
CJ Smith home run in the first inning gave the Beacons an early 2-0 lead and set the tone for the non-conference win and Bushnell's fifth straight victory.
The team would go ahead 5-0 after a three-run fourth inning.
Jacob Richardson started the scoring as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by a sacrifice fly for
Reece Carganilla and an RBI double for Hudler (pictured, right).
Â
Bushnell's hopes of another shutout were denied in the top of the seventh inning when Miyazawa laced a bases-loaded triple down the right field line, which was determined to be a fair ball by the umpire, making it a 5-3 game.
Â
The Beacons added an insurance run in the seventh on a
Chase Nye single, and reliever
Blake Stavros took it from there, closing out the final 2.2 innings to earn his second save.
Â
Kai Keamo had gotten the start for the Beacons, and held Corban hitless for the first three innings.
Elijah Breault (2-0) grabbed the win in relief with two scoreless innings.
Â
Hudler finished game two as the only Beacon with multiple hits, going 3-for-4 to cap off a six-hit day and a nine-hit weekend in which he hit .529 with six runs and five RBI.
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell (16-3, 7-2 CCC) will play a non-conference game on Tuesday with Linfield University (6-4), and will return to the road next weekend to take on The College of Idaho (12-9, 2-7) for a four-game conference series. Corban (6-12, 2-7) will play host to No. 24 Lewis-Clark State. Â Â
Â
Coach Womack said, "Overall, I am really proud of our players and we need to take advantage of the day off tomorrow and practice Monday ahead of Linfield coming to town on Tuesday."
