SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – Eleven Bushnell pitchers combined to allow just five hits on Tuesday and the Beacons pulled out a 4-3 victory in twelve innings over Linfield University in a non-conference game at Hamlin Sports Complex.
Â
Senior
Jameson Hussey played the role of hero in the bottom of the 12th as his hard-hit grounder proved unplayable for the Wildcat third baseman, and
Albert Jennings scored for the win. This came three innings after
Kolby Amaral had tied things up for the Beacons, hitting a two-out double to left field, scoring
Jacob Wood to make it a 3-3 game.
Â
The win came after the Beacons also struggled offensively with ten Linfield pitchers combining to strike out 17 batters with Bushnell leaving 18 runners on base.
Â
All of the scoring came early and then late as the Beacons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded hit batter and a bases loaded walk. The Wildcats responded with two runs on the top of the second and then scored their final run in the top of the third, holding a 3-2 lead for the next six innings.
Â
Linfield went the final nine innings of the game with just one hit as the Bushnell bullpen put on a remarkable display, highlighted by
Nate Rasmussen (pictured),
Jayden Soriano,
Garrett Vohs and
Alec Gums who retired the final 18 batters of the game from the seventh inning on. Gums (1-0) struck out five of the six batters he faced over the final two innings to earn the victory.
Â
With a total of 32 players getting into the game for the Beacons, no player ended with more than one hit, other than
Albert Jennings who went 2-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. He started the game in left field, was replaced in the second inning, and reentered in the ninth.
It was the second-longest game in Bushnell history, behind a 4-3 win over Oregon Tech in 2023 that went to the 14th. The Beacons are now 5-1 all-time in extra inning games, including two this season.
