SPRINGFIELD, Ore. – An explosive offensive performance in the first contest and a game of survival in the night cap helped Bushnell sweep Corban University on Friday to remain in first-place in the CCC.
Â
"I am happy with our effort today," said head coach
Jamie Womack. "I thought guys were mentally present and competed. Corban is much improved and rolled out two really quality starters."
Â
The bullpen continues to be a boon for the Beacons as three different relievers combined to throw seven scoreless innings in the two games.
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 10, Corban 2
Â
After a slow offensive start for Bushnell, the Beacons found a way to heat up offensively in the later innings, with three runs in the fifth and six runs in the eighth to secure a 10-2 victory behind 13 total hits.
Â
Eight different players got hits for the Beacons, who played small-ball with 11 singles.
Jordan Wilson went 3-for-5 to lead the charge, getting an RBI in all three of his hits, while
Ethan Stacy,
Cade Crist, and
Dylan Carson added two hits apiece.
Â
Wilson started off the fifth with an RBI single while Stacy and Crist both recorded RBI singles, giving the Beacons a 4-2 lead after a three-run inning.
Â
Bushnell was stuck at four runs until the eighth inning, when a sacrifice fly by
Will Hudler collected the first of six runs for the Beacons. Wilson recorded another RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly by Stacy.
Albert Jennings also collected an RBI single, pinch hitting for his first action in over a month, and the hot inning of scoring for the Beacons finished with an RBI double from
Dylan Carson.
Â
Three pitchers combined on a four-hitter for Bushnell, led by a five-inning start from
Austin Wolfe (2-0), giving up two earned runs over five innings.
Loreto Siniscalchi pitched the sixth and seventh, giving up just one hit and
Alec Gums closed things out with two hitless innings to claim his third save of the season.
Â
GAME TWO: Bushnell 5, Corban 3
Â
After the lumber showcase in the opener, Bushnell found hits to be few and far between in game two, as they went up against the buzz saw of Josephan Gonzalez (2-3) in game two. The junior threw a complete game for the Warriors, striking out 13 batters in a losing effort, as the home team found a way to get into the win column.
Â
The Beacons claimed victory due in large part to Stacy (pictured), whose three-run home run in the first inning gave Bushnell an early 3-1 lead. Hudler, who had two of Bushnell's four hits in the game, Â added an RBI double in the second inning and
Reece Carganilla hit an RBI double in the fifth to account for the rest of the Beacon runs.
Â
Braden Proud (1-0) and
Ethan Sachs combined on the mound for the Beacons and did just enough. Proud gave up three runs on six hits over the first six innings while Sachs threw three scoreless innings to close it out and claim his first career save.
Â
Coach Womack said, "Gonzalez was really strong and was able to mix and command how he wanted. That required us to be really good in limiting their ability to stack runs together, which Proud and Sachs did very well. We need to come out high-energy tomorrow to finish the job and weekend strong."
Â
UP NEXT: Bushnell (14-3, 6-2 CCC) will play two more with the Warriors (6-11, 2-6) on Saturday, beginning at 11:00 am. The first game will be a conference game while the fourth will be a non-conference clash. Â
