Beacons Sweep Behind Six Home Runs

CALDWELL, Idaho – Bushnell scored 13 runs off of six home runs, off the bats of just three Beacons as they swept a critical Cascade Collegiate Conference double-header at The College of Idaho on Saturday, 8-5 and 5-2.

Cade Crist (pictured) hit three home runs, collecting seven RBI, to lead the way for the Beacons while Albert Jennings had a pair of dingers in the opener and Jordan Wilson crushed his 31st career homer in the night cap.

Head Coach Jamie Womack said, "I am immensely proud of our guys today. We had a fair bit of adversity built into today, but our guys stated tough, fought, and came away with two big wins. We were able to put the game in our own hands with our ability to put the ball out of the park, and there is never any doubt with this team that they will find a way at the end of games."

GAME ONE: Bushnell 8, College of Idaho 5

Jennings and Crist posted two homers apiece in the first game of the day to lift Bushnell to the win.

Jennings started things off with a solo shot in the first inning. Crist followed in the sixth, hitting a three-run bomb to tie the game after the Yotes had taken a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning.

College of Idaho took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, 5-4, and were just two outs away from a victory when Jennings hit his second shot, a two-run blast to give Bushnell the lead for good. Then, Ethan Stacy was hit by a pitch, Crist added two insurance runs with another homer.

Loreto Siniscalchi (4-0), who came in to relieve starter Austin Wolfe in the fifth inning, got the win for the Beacons, striking out four batters in 3.2 innings of work. After Blake Stavros retired the first two batters in the ninth, Alex Gums came in to strike out the final hitter, picking up his fourth save of the year.

GAME TWO: Bushnell 5, College of Idaho 2

After the Yotes took a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the third, Crist hit a two-run shot in the fourth to give the Beacons the early edge. His seventh homer of the season briefly tied him with Wilson atop Bushnell's career list with his 30th all-time dinger.

Wilson proceeded to hit Number 31 in the top of the ninth, a three-run home run to give Bushnell the victory.

Garrett Vohs (3-0) claimed the win for the Beacons, striking out four batters over the final two innings. The relief appearance backed up another strong start for Braden Proud, who struck out seven batters over seven innings, allowing just two unearned runs on three hits.

"We got great outings from Proud and Vohs in game two," said Womack, "and Siniscalchi, Stavros, and Gums fought hard to get through big innings in the opener. All around, it was a great effort today and a great display of resiliency. We need to bring that energy to the yard tomorrow and get after it to finish this series right."

UP NEXT: Bushnell (19-3, 9-2 CCC), who remains tied for first-place in the Cascade Conference with just two losses, will close out the weekend series with the Yotes (12-11, 2-9) on Sunday, beginning at 11:00 am (MT).
