McMINVILLE, Ore. – The Bushnell outdoor track & field season got off to it's unofficial start on Saturday, with junior
Ty Kishen leading the Beacons with a pair of event victories.
With Saturday's festivities running concurrent with the NAIA Indoor National Track & Field Championships, all times and distances do not count towards potential conference or national qualification, but do give the Beacons a chance to whet their beaks for the season, and put together some establishing standards of their own.
For Kishen, it was a strong start with a pair of personal records in winning both the Triple Jump (14.37m/47'1.75) and Long Jump (6.91m/22'8"). His marks were good enough for the CCC standard, as were jump marks by multiple Beacons including senior
Hunter Reininger and freshmen
Maui Richmond and
Elliot Nofziger.
Another impressive PR came for
Brett Olmstead in the Pole Vault as the senior took third-place with a clearance at 4.12 meters (13'06.25").
Not to be outdone, sophomore
Maxwell Al-Rubaie earned a School Record in the hammer throw, tossing a distance of 38.96 meters (127'10").
On the women's side, a handful of would-be Cascade Conference marks were achieved, led by
Cadence Smith in the 3000m Steeplechase. The freshman won the event with a time of 12 minutes, 8.10 seconds.
In the long jump,
Cyan Kelso-Reynolds claimed fifth place at 5.09 meters (16'8.50") with
Ellie Ekwere close behind at 4.95m (16'4.75").
Leah Schiewe earned a fourth-place finish in the discus, landing her best toss at 36.40 meters (119'5").
Head Coach
Kyle Will said, "The weather was awesome this weekend, and it was a really great start to the season. We have a lot to work on, but I am really happy with how things went for a first meet. It gave us an idea of where we are at and what we need to work on moving forward."
The Beacons will be back in action next weekend, looking to officially start punching tickets to the CCC championships as they compete at Rich Allen Invitational, hosted by George Fox University.
