Hoffman Leads Beacons to Victory

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Senior Spencer Hoffman posted a double-double on Friday night, leading Bushnell to their third straight win with a 101-93 victory over Northwest University. It was the Beacons third straight 100-point game, tying a school record.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "Spencer was a dominant presence in the paint tonight. Good things happened all around when he touched the ball. He executed extremely well and the guys rallied well in the second half."

It was another offensive slugfest for the Beacons (12-9, 9-6 CCC) who had to stave off a late rally to clinch the victory as both teams shot over 56% in the contest. Bushnell finished with a 24-10 advantage in points off turnovers that proved to be the different as they forced the Eagles (6-15, 5-10) into 14 miscues.

Playing through a very even first half, Bushnell found themselves down by five points early in the second frame and were trailing 61-60 with 13-and-a-half minutes to play. Kaden Sand and Alexis Angeles hit back-to-back three pointers, which sent the visitors on 18-7 run to take a 78-68 lead.

The Beacons held on to a ten-point advantage and were leading 89-79 with 4:40 remaining when the Eagles began to mount a final charge. NU would mount a 12-2 run over the next three minutes to pull even at 91-91.

After trading baskets down the stretch, the Eagles finally missed on their possession as Hoffman pulled in his 12th and final rebound of the game with just 35 seconds remaining. This forced Northwest to play the foul game, but Bushnell finished the game by hitting six straight free-throws to put the game on ice.

Hoffman finished his night hitting 13-for-16 from the field to score 26 points to go with his 12 rebounds. All five starters finished in double-figures for the Beacons with Trevon Richmond and Kaden Sand scoring 17 apiece. Sand hit three three-pointers and filled up the stat sheet with six assists, five rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Angeles finished the game with 14 points while Stevie Schlabach scored 12.

"Our starters were excellent tonight," said Alexander, "and we rode with them as they were clicking offensively."

The Eagles certainly made Bushnell work for it on Friday, shooting 61% in the second half alone. Luke Howard continues to be one of the biggest scoring threats in the conference as he collected a game-high 27 points. Coach Alexander said, "Luke Howard was a pest tonight for us. I give him a lot of credit as he countered everything we wanted to do against him defensively. NU plays very well at home and tonight was no different."

The Beacons will look to keep the momentum going on Saturday as they head to Olympia at 5:00 pm to take on Evergreen (3-17, 2-13).
