Coach Alexander became the 11th coach in Bushnell men's basketball history in 2018. He had been an assistant with the team since 2016 and was named the interim head coach in May of 2018. After a successful 19-10 debut season, he was officially named the head coach in March of 2019.
Formerly a well-known AAU coach, Alexander was the director of Dribble Drive Basketball which he founded in 2003. Dribble Drive was known for their high intensity on defense, aggressive offensive style and for developing high levels of basketball IQ in their players. No longer a club program, Dribble Drive Basketball is still ran by Alexander, periodically hosting camps and clinics for players and coaches.
As a rookie coach in 2018, Coach Alexander burst onto the scene, leading the team to a No. 24 national ranking. That inaugural season including the Beacons first ever victory over a No. 1 ranked opponent (College of Idaho), and a rare road sweep against No. 18 Southern Oregon and No. 14 Oregon Tech. Coach Alexander also coached his first NAIA All-American and NAIA All-Star that season, Austin Tyner.
In Coach Alexander’s second season, the Beacons reloaded with a lot of young talent. Although only finishing with a 14-17 record, the Beacons again toppled the then ranked #12 OIT Hustlin’ Owls during the season, 87-82. The #8 OIT Hustlin’ Owls got their revenge ending the Beacons season in the CCC Tournament, 83-87, only a couple weeks later. Alexander again coached another First Team All-CCC player, Ernest Ugoagu, along with Freshman, Stevie Schlabach, being named All-CCC Honorable Mention.
The COVID-delayed 2020-2021 season allowed for a shortened spring campaign, which included the Oregon-based CCC schools. The Beacons went 5-5 and had three All-CCC players, including Schlabach who was named the CCC Player of the Spring.
Bushnell returned to the post-season in 2023 on the back of All-CCC selections Schlabach and Spencer Hoffman, who was also named the CCC Newcomer of the Year.
In 2024, the emergence of Kaden Sand as an All-CCC player, alongside Schlabach and Hoffman, the Beacons returned to the post-season, falling to eventual tournament champion and No. 16-ranked Oregon Tech by three points in the quarterfinals.
Coach Alexander graduated from George Fox University with a bachelor's degree in management and organizational leadership and has a master's degree in coaching and athletics administration from Concordia University-Irvine.
Alexander lives in Eugene with his wife Wendy, who serves as the office manager for Bushnell Athletics. They have two children, Brooklyn and Jordan, both Bushnell graduates. Jordan is a former point guard for the Beacons and currently works for the University as an assistant coach and an admissions counselor.
What his players have said:
Brendyn Taylor: "Coach Eddie is a tremendous leader both on and off the court. During my short time at Bushnell we were able to build a strong rapport. He always knew when I needed extra motivation and could be a little tougher on me. He also knew when to pull me in and provide me with words of encouragement. Not all coaches have the ability to discern when a player needs tough love versus words of encouragement and Coach Eddie has that ability. He is the model of a stand up human — a great father, a great husband, and someone that truly cares about the well being of others. Our relationship is strong to this day — expanding way past the game of basketball. Coach has been there for me every step of the way, providing me with love, care, and words that have helped me push through any adversities life has given me. I’ve been happy to follow the team under the leadership of coach Eddie and look forward to seeing their continued success!"
Jack Hackman: “In addition to the X’s and O’s, Eddie is an incredible program builder. He equally prioritizes faith, mentorship, and winning at a high level. Eddie makes both current and former players feel like family, embodying the mantra ‘Once a Beacon, always a Beacon.’”
Kaden Sand: "As a coach and mentor, Eddie has helped me mature as a player and as a man in my four years at Bushnell. He has allowed me to grow within myself at my pace, and has taught me many things throughout the years. On top of this, he has helped me grow in my relationship with God which has helped me navigate through college and my basketball career."
Michael Loomis: "I always appreciated the insight and wisdom that Eddie provided. He was always willing to listen, offer advice, and challenge me to be the best player and leader I could be, even when the advice was not always the easiest to hear. Reaching the next level as a player and team is not easy but Eddie was always willing and passionate about doing all he could to accomplish this goal. He has definitely made a positive impact in my life and the lessons he shared continue to help me in my post-basketball career."
