Welcome Coach Kyle Will

Men's Cross Country Nick Askew, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications

Beacons Introduce Kyle Will to Lead XC and Track Programs

EUGENE, Ore.  – After a nationwide search, Bushnell University Athletic Director Corey Anderson announces the hiring of Kyle Will as the new Director of Track & Field and Head Cross Country Coach for the Beacons.

Will said, "I am so excited and feel incredibly blessed to be chosen as the next Director of Track and Field/Head XC coach at Bushnell University.  This will be a homecoming of sorts for me and my family as we lived in Central Oregon for close to 20 years. While that certainly made this opportunity appealing, it was only after meeting with Corey and the rest of the search committee that I truly felt that this could be a great fit. The commitment Bushnell University has towards its student athletes is exactly what I am looking for in this next opportunity. It was clear from the beginning of this process that Bushnell cares about its students, wants to offer them a life changing experience and desires to be the light of Christ in all they do towards that end."

Will replaces Tom Boldon, who resigned in June, and brings a strong background at the collegiate level to his new post. Coach Will spent the previous three seasons as the Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach at Ottawa University, an NAIA school from the Golden State Athletic Conference, located in Surprise, Arizona

Athletic Director Corey Anderson said, "We are blessed to announce Kyle Will as our next Head Cross Country Coach and Director of Track & Field.  Kyle's overall experience as both a head coach and director along with his many years of leadership in the business of fitness training separated him apart from an outstanding group of candidates.  It was evident early on that Kyle's faith and his ability to teach, coach and recruit will put him in a position to have a high level of success as the leader for Bushnell XC and Track & Field moving forward.  We welcome Will and his family with open arms to Bushnell University!"

During his time with the Spirit, Will expanded a roster from just 19 athletes to over 55 in just two seasons and signed over 100 athletes to Letters of Intent during his four-year stint, despite dealing with the uncertainties of the pandemic. Over the course of his career he has coached numerous All-GSAC competitors along with multiple conference champions and national qualifiers.

Will is a respected member of the NAIA coaching community, serving on multiple national committees while also working as a national rater for women's cross country this year.

Bushnell Associate Head Track & Field Coach George Walcott said, "I am extremely excited to have Kyle on board. I look forward to working with him and I feel confident that he will do an awesome job in his new role. He brings years of experience as a coach, administrator, and program builder and I am ready to get to work."

Prior to his time in Arizona, Will spent one year at Providence Classical Christian Academy in Rogers, Arkansas where in just one season he coached ten individual state champions and also served as the school's Director of Strength and Conditioning. Will had spent the previous 13 seasons on the coaching staff at Bend High School in Bend, Ore., including the final six as head coach. His teams finished runner-up at the Oregon 5A State Championships each of his final three seasons at the school and featured multiple individual state champions in the 100, 800, 4x100 relay, and pole vault.

While in Bend, Will also owned a personal training studio called WillPower Training Studio. In that role he helped design, develop, and implement long distance running programs for athletes ranging in age from 12-80. His clients included age group champions at the 2007 Xterra Triathlon, 2009 World Triathlon, and 2010 Boston Marathon.

"I feel coaching is my ministry and it is my desire to do that well," said Coach Will, "to share the light of Christ with my team and hopefully inspire them to discover the God-given gifts and talents they each have and hopefully be a small part of their journey to go and make a difference in this world. I hope to build a program that not only competes for Championships but also changes lives today and for generations to come. I have no doubt Bushnell University will be a great place to do that and I can't wait to get started. I want to thank everyone on the search committee and President Womack for their belief in me, for their time invested in this process and for all the support they have already offered."

Will is a Cum Laude graduate of Colorado State University with a Bachelor's of Exercise and Sport Science with a concentration in sports medicine. He completed his Masters in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University - Irvine.
