PORTLAND, Ore. –
Libby Mathis broke a four-year old school record in the shot put and four new Cascade Conference qualifications were earned as the Bushnell women's track & field team competed at the Lewis & Clark Invitational.
Â
"The throwers stole the show today," said Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon. "Libby had a series of throws that were impressive, culminating in her school-record throw."
Â
Mathis took first-place on Saturday with a throw of 12.50 meters (41'0.25"), four years and two days after the previous record had been set by All-CCC performer Myah Harter. She moves to fourth on the conference performance list.
Â
Mathis wasn't the only thrower getting in on the action as both
Dakota Underwood and Leah Scheiwe grabbed CCC qualifications in the Discus. They both had also qualified for the Shot Put.
Â
Claiming a third qualification was
Janea Robertson in the 200m, joining her previous standards in the 400m and long jump. The freshman took 5th-place out of a 43-woman field, hitting 26.00 seconds. It was the fourth-best time in school history and the best since 2017.
Â
Coach Boldon said, "Janea continues to have a fabulous freshman year. Not only did she get a third conference qualification but she ran a very fast leg in the 4x100m and had our fastest led in the 4x400m."
Â
Senior
Sarah Phillips also officially punched her ticket for her final conference championship, breaking the qualifying mark in the high jump (1.48m/4'10.25").
Â
Other Women's Track & Field Highlights:
- The team of Adrienne Mai, Robertson, Maddii Desemone, and Phillips won the 4x100m relay with a season-best time of 49.69. It was the best time for Bushnell in four years.
- In just her second race of the season, freshman Charlie Huelsman took three seconds off of her time in the 400m hurdles.
- Junior Kennedy Larson chopped almost a full minute off of her 10000m time with a solid 43:24.70, and is just 52 seconds away from the CCC qualifying standard.
Bushnell will take another week off before returning to action in Corvallis at the OSU High Performance Meet on April 28-29.Â
