NEWBERG, Ore./PORTLAND, Ore.  – One school record fell and a new one was established as the Bushnell women's track & field team competed at both the George Fox Indoor meet and the University of Portland meet on Sunday.
 
At the University of Portland meet, Freshman Janea Robertson took third-place (1:00.75) in the 400m run and took nearly two seconds off of the previous school record, which had stood for four years.
 
The storied history of the women's distance running program, which has yielded numerous All-Americans and an NAIA Cross Country national championship, had never before had a competitor in the indoor 3000m race until Sunday. Freshman Harmony Goodman became the first, and in the process established the Beacon school-record in the event, coming in 18th-place with a time of 11:47.86.
 
Meanwhile, the George Fox event produced the first jumps and hurdles competition of the season. This included a top-ten finish for Maddii Desemone (pictured) in her first 60m dash of the season as she ran an 8.27 in the preliminaries. She qualified for the finals where she took seventh-place with a time of 8.24, just one one-hundredth of second off her personal record.
 
After the event, Director of Track & Field Tom Boldon said, "Overall it was a really good day for the Beacons, as 27 athletes were in competition, giving them each more opportunities to see where they are this early in the season.  As a coaching staff we were very pleased with what we saw, knowing that we have a ton of potential for much more to come!"
 
Bushnell will be back in action next weekend, returning to Seattle to compete in the Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington on Friday and Saturday.
