Head Coach
Eddie Alexander said, "We are still learning how to play defense collectively as a team and it showed this weekend against two national-tournament caliber teams. We are steadily improving each day, although it is hard to see in the final scores. Building our belief level and confidence in each other is something we are striving for each day and we are excited for this group and what lies ahead.
The Beacons (0-2) had three players score over 20 points, led by 23 from
Spencer Hoffman who contributed a double-double with a match-high ten rebounds. Sand scored 20, as did
Stevie Schlabach, while Sand and
Alexis Angeles posted five assists apiece to lead the Beacons.
Tony Frohlich-Fair scored 14 points and had seven boards in the losing effort.
Sand, who scored his 1000th point just before the end of the first half, now has 1010 points in his career which ranks 23rd in school history. He is the 24th player in school history to break the millennial milestone and the tenth in the NAIA-Era.
"I am extremely proud of Kaden and his personal accomplishment this weekend reaching a milestone," said Alexander. "He has put in a lot of work and deserves a little bit of recognition for his work ethic."
Bethel was led by 28 points from Nathan Aerts, while Drew Lutz scored 23 with nine assists. Both players hit three triples apiece.
The Beacons will return to action on next Friday, playing their first official home game of the season as they host Linfield College at 7:30 pm. Coach Alexander is looking forward towards continued development in the pre-season schedule, saying, "We are extremely excited for new guys breaking into the rotation and look forward to a few more that we know will be there soon. This will be the deepest team we have had in over five years by the time we get to the middle of the season."
