LAKE OSWEGO, Ore.  – The Bushnell women's cross country team opened up the 2022 campaign on Thursday evening, racing at the Lewis and Clark Opener, taking place at the Lake Oswego Public Golf Course.
 
Head Coach Tom Boldon said, "We ran better than I expected we would, based on our training and some tired and sore bodies going into the race. I am very proud of the effort and results, especially on a hilly and uneven course. It will be exciting to see what we look like in an 5000m race."
 
The Beacons took fifth-place in the race, scoring 125 points. The University of Oregon won the race, sweeping the top five spots to score a perfect 15 points, followed by Oregon State with 61. George Fox took third-place, followed by the hosts in fourth. Bushnell was the only CCC school in attendance.
 
Only five women competed in the three-mile jaunt for the Beacons, led by Rebecca Kuskie. The senior finished 16th, but was sixth among non-Division I collegians, finishing in 18 minutes, 18.7 seconds.
 
She was followed by freshman Harmony Goodman (pictured), making her collegiate debut with a 30th-place finish (19:33). Hannah Scott was close behind in 33rd, followed by Kennedy Larson in 39th and Kaitlin Cook in 47th.
 
"The entire women's team ran really well," said Boldon. "Becca, Harmony, Hannah and Kennedy all would have had 5K PRs, or close to it. Kaitlin really got out fast and hung on."
 
Bushnell will be back in action on Friday, September 9 when they travel to Talent, Oregon to take part in the Cascade Collegiate Conference preview meet.
