NEWBERG, Ore. – Bushnell put a bow on the Indoor Track & Field season on Saturday, competing at the George Fox Indoor #3 event. Multiple season-bests were hit as the team gears up for the outdoor season.
The ladies were out in force, led by high jumper
Mikayla Rodriguez. The senior produced the first cleared bar of her indoor career and landed the third-best mark in program history, leaping 1.42m.
Faith Palmer, who also has a 1.42m jump to her credit this season, was unable to clear that opening height on Saturday.
In the long jump,
Mayah Pappas had a jump of 5.17m to take fourth place, second among collegiate athletes.
Carina Haas finished in eighth place with a season-best mark of 4.45m.
Dakota Underwood posted her second-longest Shot Put of the season, taking third-place with a mark of 10.74m while
Maddii Desemone was third among collegiate sprinters in the 60m, finishing in 8.38 seconds.
On the men's side,
Jaron Carter posted the second-fastest time in school history in the 60m dash, coming in second-place at 7.04 seconds. Carter now owns the top five fastest times in Beacon history. Making his collegiate debut,
Ashton Williams landed sixth in the Bushnell record book with a time of 7.17, giving him fourth-place.
After the event, Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon said, "I thought Jaron looked good today, as did Ashton. There wasn't much time to to recover between the preliminary round and the final, so the fact that they both equaled or ran faster in the final was great. Dakota kept getting stronger as the competition went on and is primed for a solid outdoor season. It is very cold in the arena at George Fox, so once our sprinters and jumpers start competing in warmer conditions, their results should improve significantly."
The indoor season will give way to the outdoor track on March 5 at Linfield College.
