COMPLETE RESULTS | LA GRANDE, Ore. - The Bushnell women's track & field team closed out the 2021 CCC Championships presented by US Bank at Banner Bank Field on Saturday with another glimpse into what should be a bright future for the ladies.
"Our coaching staff is very proud of our team," said Director of Track & Field
Tom Boldon.
Bushnell took eighth place in the championship, scoring 20 points. Freshman
Mayah Pappas and junior
Carina Haas were responsible for half of those points.
Pappas took sixth place on Friday in the long jump and was part of both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams for the Beacons which scored points, including a fourth-place finish for the 4x400m team on Saturday. Coach Boldon said, "Mayah continues to show what a glimpse of her future looks like. She missed a lot of time at the beginning of the season due to injury but finished strong."
Carina led a three-athlete contingent for the Beacons in the pole vault on Saturday and took fourth place, the highest finish for an individual Beacon athlete on the weekend. She was just a hair short of her own school record (3.15m) while senior
Rachel Rhoads closed her career with a new career-best at 2.95m to take fifth. Freshman
Skye Urban finished ninth, but also hit a lifetime best, clearing 2.75 meters. "Our pole vaulters were a showcase for Bushnell today," said Boldon.
While the results may not have been what the Beacons hoped for going into the season, Coach Boldon was proud of what the team was able to do. "It has been a long and challenging season," he said, "with all of the CoVID screeining and testing, last-minute meet opportunities, smaller and less-competitive meets, and a more-than-usual amount of injuries. But these kids persevered and can be proud of themselves."
