EUGENE, Ore. – Hoping to continue to build momentum after an impressive start in Qualifier 1, the Northwest Christian University Overwatch team was handed a loss by Grand Canyon University in game one of Qualifier 2 in the TESPA Varisty Overwatch Series.
Lineup:
DPS: Akito Ryuzaki, Tyler Chase
Support: Alex Daraban, Jesse Gerlach
Tank: Daniel Gerlach, Chase Dean
The best-of-three match opened again on the control map, Busan. NCU immediately felt the pressure of GCU and would not be able to recover. GCU won the first and second rounds 100-0.
The Beacons picked hybrid map, Kings Row, for game two. NCU started on the offensive and were stopped after attaining only the first objective and recording just one point. GCU quickly responded with two points to claim the map.
The Overwatch team (2-2) will have one last opportunity to keep their varsity series hopes alive as they fall into the second-chance bracket. This bracket will be an eight round Swiss tournament that feeds into the play-in stage. Games will begin Saturday, October 5 at 1 PM PST.
