EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University Overwatch season got underway this weekend with the Beacons making it to the Round of 16 before falling to Hawkeye Community College.

Starting Lineup:

DPS: Akito Ryuzaki, Tyler Chase

Support: Alex Daraban, Jesse Gerlach

Tank: Daniel Gerlach, Chase Dean

Game 1

NCU opened the 2019 Varsity Overwatch season taking on Park University. The Beacons dominated the game winning 2-0 in a best of three game series. Starting with Busan (control), the Beacons completed the sweep, dominating both Meka Base and City Center, 100-0. They continued play with the Pirates' choice of Hollywood (hybrid). Even with the opponent getting their choice of map, NCU was not phased as they won the match 3-2.

Tyler Chase (ShockMaster) earned player of each game, racking up 52 eliminations.

Game 2

Two hours later NCU continued play against University of South Carolina – Sumter. Again, the Beacons made quick work of their opponent opening the series with Busan (control) and winning the point, 100-0. The Fire Ants chose King's Row (hybrid) for map two hoping to turn things around but the Beacons were ready, taking the match 3-2. Daniel Gerlach (Leinad) and Alex Daraban (Alexio) were crowned players of the match. Gerlach's hard work on using his ultimate proactively ended up paying dividends for the Beacons.

Game 3

Almost immediately following the conclusion of Game 2, the Beacons continued play in Qualifier 1 against Hawkeye Community College. After steamrolling their first two opponents, the Beacons seemed to run out of gas against the RedTails, losing the game 0-2. Opening again on Busan (control), the RedTails claimed the map handedly, 100-0. The beacons chose a favorite, King's Row (hybrid), for the second map but were unable to turn things around and lost the map 3-2.

NCU's Overwatch team will return to action on Friday as they compete in Qualifier 2. The Beacons hope to win the bracket in order to earn a spot in the Varsity Invitational.
