EUGENE, Ore. – The season continued strong for the Overwatch team over the past two weeks and as they pile up wins on the way to the post-season, they are looking more and more likely to earn a spot in the national championship tournament.

Super Bowl Sunday saw the Beacons playing a pair of games with both a National league and Regional league contest and they came away with a split.

NCU made quick work of Lackawanna College in their national contest and won 2-0, claiming victories in Numbani (hybrid) and Busan (control). Numbani was a steamroll as the Beacons defended first and did not allow the Falcons to even move toward the first checkpoint. NCU then quickly gained the first checkpoint on offense to claim the victory. Tyler Chase (pictured) was awarded the Play of the Game, using Genji.

The Beacons completed the sweep in Busan, dominating both Meka Base and City Center, 100-0. Chase once again used Genji to claim the Play of the Game.

Head Coach Taylor Lind said, "Tyler did a great job taking the advantages that were set up by plays from the rest of the team. It was a strong team effort for sure."

Taking on Western Washington University in the nightcap, the Vikings proved to be a formidable foe, remaining undefeated on the season (7-0) with a 2-0 victory. They took Gibraltar (escort) as they held NCU from the first objective and the Beacons were unable to hold WWU on defense. The second map was Horizon Lunar Colony (assault) and began with both teams successfully capturing both points. The Vikings, however, had a near 3-to-1 time advantage in overtime and were able to get to the second target once again.

NCU returned to varsity action on Friday night with a much anticipated clash with Oregon Tech, the only other Cascade Collegiate Conference school currently sponsoring esports. The night proved not to be too much of a fight for NCU as they captured the 2-0 victory with map wins on Nepal (control) and King's Row (hybrid).

Sunday night featured another pair of games and unlike the Sunday before NCU swept the day, taking down both UNLV and Boise State.

The UNLV national league match began with an easy win on Blizzard World (hybrid) as NCU pushed through all three checkpoints and then held the Rebels at bay on defense.

The Control battle on Oasis proved to be a more difficult assignment for NCU. NCU held control in round one all the way to 99% before losing it to UNLV, only to see the Rebels hold of the Beacons all the way at 99% themselves. The Beacons ultimately too the last percentage point and the victory in overtime, 100-99. UNLV rallied in the second-round for a 100-65 victory but the Beacons closed it out with another dominant 100-0 win in the third round.

The Beacons took down Boise State in the regional match, earning their second victory over the Broncos this season. NCU cruised to a 3-0 win on Rialto (escort). And then took a 2-1 victory on Temple of Anubis (assault) for another sweep.
