Eugene, Ore. - The Northwest Christian University volleyball team was able to continue their hot streak in the Cascade Conference Saturday night as they beat The Evergreen State College in four sets, 25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 26-24. After defeating Northwest on Friday and ESC tonight, the Beacons move to .500 in conference play.

Head Coach Jason Corwin said, "To go in and take care of the two teams that are ahead of us in league was crucial for our post season hopes. We protected home court and had quality wins against a pair of talented, well-coached teams."

The Beacons (15-8, 7-7 CCC) trailed in both the third and fourth set but were able to put together big rallies to clinch the sets. NCU held a 60-49 advantage in kills.

NCU out-dug the Geoducks 72-63 and posted nine service aces including three apiece from Cambria Lingenfelder and Jackie Harmon. The Beacons also survived despite a 7-3 advantage in blocks for Evergreen (10-14, 8-7).

"We had a lot of great individual contribution tonight, said Corwin. "Jessica came in and did a great job on the right side, Payton posted some strong numbers in the middle and Claire came in for the last two sets and really put us on her back. Taylor had her best night as a Beacon. We had some really mature swings out there. We used the block and took shots, swinging with confidence."

NCU was led by junior Taylor Gould as she collected an impressive match-high 17 kills behind a .353 hitting percentage. Freshman Payton Jones added 10 kills of her own doing so with a .529 hitting percentage. Despite playing just two sets, Claire Salness posted a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.

Coming off a career night on Friday, Makenna Northern finished off a spectacular weekend with 51 assists, eight digs and a team-high 2 blocks. The sophomore averaged 13.6 assists per set, over the pair of matches.

Kayla Olsen added 21 digs in the victory while Lingenfelder and Jessica Northcutt posted eight kills apiece.

The Geoducks were led by Renita Gray who posted 11 kills and a match-high five blocks including three solo efforts. Lily Stewart hit .323 with 12 kills and Zoe Shaw added nine kills and 14 digs. Nicole Duryea led the team with 18 digs and Sierra Wolff collected 40 assists and five kills.

The Beacons will look to continue their momentum on Thursday, October 24 as they take on No.10 Southern Oregon (14-5, 11-2) at the Lithia Motors Pavilion at 7:00 pm.
