ASHLAND, Ore. – The NCU women's track & field team continued to push toward the Cascade Collegiate Conference championships this weekend at the Southern Oregon University Raider Invitational. Six new conference qualifying marks were hit while three school records fell and three women added event victories.
Â
Cass Brownell led the way as she won the One-Mile run with a time of 5:17.24, good enough to hit the equivalent CCC qualifying mark in for the 1500m. She also qualified for the 800m event as well taking second-place at 2:22.37. Brownell has now qualified to compete in three events at the conference championships. Finishing second behind Brownell in the One-Mile was sophomore
Anika Rasubala, also hitting the conference qualifying equivalent. She can now run both the 1500m and the steeplechase in Hermiston next month.
Â
Another multi-qualifier is
Brianna Jury who added the 100m Hurdles to the 400m Hurdles ticket she punched earlier this season. Meanwhile, freshman
Taylor Binkerd earned her first career invite to CCC in the 400m hurdles, coming in at 1:12.52.
Â
Senior
Bailey Dell, the NAIA javelin leader, picked up a hammer for the first time in her collegiate career this weekend and on her very first toss cleared the CCC-qualifying mark by 19 feet to establish the first-time NCU record in the event (34.40m). Dell also picked up another Javelin event victory, hitting 46.72m to win by over 26 feet.
Â
Fellow thrower
Myah Harter also heaved the hammer, falling just short of a conference mark. Harter did, however, win the Raider Invite Discus title (36.21m) while also improving her own school-record in the Shot Put with a mark of 11.16m.
Â
Also breaking her own school record was high-jumper
Megan Van Marter, clearing 1.55m to improve by three inches.
Â
The Beacons will return to action next weekend as they compete in the Oregon State University High Performance Meet.
