Beacons Impress at Lane Preview

EUGENE, Ore. – The NCU women's track & field team had a strong showing over the weekend at the Lane Preview. Beacon athletes won or were the top collegiate finisher in seven events and eight new conference qualifications were hit.

In the 100m, Karrin Shriner and Halona Jackson finished 2-3 and were the top-two collegiate finishers. Shriner broke the school record with a sprint of 12.81 seconds while Jackson joined Shriner on the conference qualifiers list with a time of 12.87. Both ladies become the first in school history to break the 13-second barrier.

The roles reversed in the 200m as Jackson finished second and Shriner took third. Jackson punched her ticket to the CCC championships as well and the duo were once again the top-two collegiate runners.

Senior Macie Gale added two more conference qualifications, giving her a total of three events. Having already landed a spot in the 3000m Steeplechase, she will now be eligible to compete in the 800m (2:21.67) and the 1500m (4:44.67). Gale was the top collegiate finisher in the 800m and won the 1500m race by 15 seconds.

Ariana Henton made history on Saturday as the first ever Pole Vault competitor and she wasted no time in hitting the conference standard with a leap of 2.44m.

Other new conference qualifications were earned by Brianna Wood (100m & 400m Hurdles), Hannah Eddens (Long Jump), and Madeleine Nelson (Triple Jump).

Event winners included Christy Seaton in the 110m Hurdles (16.35), Abigail Spencer in the Long Jump (5.06m) and Bailey Dell in the javelin (45.04m)
