OLYMPIA, Wash. – The Evergreen State College Geoducks dug deep on Saturday night, fighting back from a two-set deficit to knock off Northwest Christian University in five, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-13.
Â
The Beacons (5-9, 3-5 CCC) seemed to be in full control through the first two sets but ESC grinded out the victory as they took the final three sets to grab just their second conference win of the season.
Â
For Northwest Christian it was their first loss after winning the first two sets since October 2, 2009 and just the third time in school history that a team was able to unravel an NCU advantage that large.
Â
The NCU attack was led by
Taylor Burnett and
Cassidy Winters, collecting 15 kills apiece.
Laurie Salness and
Keri Schwarz had big nights at the net with each grabbing seven block assists on the Beacons' eight total blocks.
Â
Maci Beierle contributed a double-double with 40 assists and 12 digs and
Haley Damian led all players with 23 digs.
Â
The Beacons will look to bounce back next weekend in Portland, heading to face Warner Pacific at 7 pm on Friday and Multnomah at 5 pm on Saturday.
