HERMISTON, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's track & field team made a huge splash on Friday, claiming three victories and five total All-CCC finishes on the first day of the CCC Championships, taking place at Hermiston HS.

The first running event of the day went 1-2 for NCU as
Michelle Fletcher (pictured) won the championship (11:01.02) followed in second-place by teammate
Macie Gale (11.24.63). The pair scored 18 of NCU's 56 points, leading the team into fourth place after the first 11 events.

Shaneesa Applegate won the CCC Long Jump championship on her final leap, landing a school-record 5.60m to nudge past the second place finisher by .01 meters.

Bookending the first day was
Rosa Schmidt as she claimed the 10000m championship, winning the event by nearly three minutes. Schmidt ran a 38:56.08 to become NCU's fifth 10k champion and second in a row.
Shea Vallaire won the 2015 title.

Also garnering All-CCC honors with a third-place finish in the 1500m was
Sierra Brown. The junior hit another "A" standard time of 4:36.66.
Alyssa Harmon also scored points for the team in the event, finishing in sixth-place (4:40.68).

Other highlights on day one included personal records for
Kelly Willyard in the 400m (1:00.30) and Breanne Wood in the 100m Hurdles (16.48). Wood took 7
th place in the event to score points, finishing just behind teammate Applegate who took sixth (16.46).

The CCC Championships will conclude on Saturday and will feature marquee events for the Beacons with the Javelin at 11:00 am and the 5000m run at 3:25.
