ASHLAND, Ore. – Five names were added to the Cascade Conference qualifying roster on Saturday as NCU competed in the Raider Invitational. Junior
Macie Gale added a third event to her personal slate and was a member of a record-setting 4x800m team that earned an NAIA "A" Standard.
Â
Gale's endeavors began on Friday night as she competed in the Mile run and took second place, landing a time of 5:07.87. Gale had already qualified for conference in the 1500m.
Â
On Saturday she added a fifth-place finish in the individual 800m race, qualifying for conference, and then ran as the third leg of the 4x800m relay team. Joining
Sierra Brown,
Emily Moon and
Michelle Fletcher, Gale guided the team to a time of 9 minutes, 21.07 seconds shaving 12 seconds off of the school record and clearing the NAIA "A" qualification standard by seven seconds. Their time was the fifth-fastest in the NAIA this year.
Â
Gale wasn't the only Beacon to make waves on Saturday. Freshman
Kelly Willyard landed her first trip to the CCC Championship in the 400m, running a 61.32 to hit the conference standard by three tenths of a second. Another first-timer to the CCC roster is freshman
Melissa Rios who qualified in the 5000m (18:49.80), joining five of her teammates.
Â
In addition to her work in the 4x8, Fletcher also qualified for conference in two individual events. In the 5000m, she missed the NAIA "B" standard by just seven seconds (17:58.15). In the 800m she placed just 15 hundredths of a second behind Gale to take sixth place.
Â
Already a qualifier in the Javelin and the triple-jump, junior
Madeleine Nelson landed a long jump qualification as well with a leap of 4.785m. She also defeated her own record in the triple jump, landing at 10.85m.
Â
Having already proved to be one of the best javelinists in the NAIA, sophomore
Bailey Dell was up to her old trick again on Saturday, winning the event with another school-record mark of 47.01m. She currently ranks second in the NAIA this season with that throw.
Â
A school record was also trampled in the 4x100m relay as
Shaneesa Applegate, Willyard, Cassandra Brownell, and
Haley Damian posted a time of 51.91.
