Complete Tournament BracketEUGENE, Ore. – The pairings for the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball national tournament were announced on Wednesday and NCU was awarded a No. 3 seed for the event.
Â
The Beacons (27-6), who moved up to No. 11 in the NAIA National Coaches Poll, are scheduled to open up the tournament at 8:15 am (PST) next Thursday morning, March 10th against Southwestern College of Kansas. The Moundbuilders (26-7) were the runners up in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Â
If Southwestern College rings familiar with Beacon fans it is for good reason. Moundbuilder senior Chris Waller went up against
Javonte Byrd in the first round of the State Farm Dark Horse Dunker competition last month.
Â
NCU's road to the championship will not be an easy one. Just within their quarter bracket, the Duer Bracket, NCU has the potential to face No. 5 ranked Indiana Wesleyan, No. 3 St. Francis (Ill.) or No. 16 Indiana Tech.
Â
Also qualifying for the field from the Cascade Collegiate Conference were Southern Oregon, earning a No. 5 seed, and Warner Pacific University who qualified as an at-large bid and took a No. 4 seed. Both of those schools will open the tournament on Wednesday.Â
