Beacons Fall to Saints in Season Opener

HELENA, Mont. – Kaleb Burnett scored 15 points but the Beacons were never able to recover from an early deficit, dropping their season opener to Carroll College on Wednesday evening, 78-51.

The Beacons (0-1) shot 31% in the game and were just 5-for-31 from three-point range in the loss while the Saints connected on a 57% clip to keep their own undefeated start to the season going (3-0). The Beacons were out-rebounded 45-31 in the game and turned the ball over 20 times.

Head Coach Eddie Alexander said, "It was the trifecta tonight in terms of how to lose a game. We shot poorly, lost on the boards, and turned the ball over way too much. With that being said, I truly believe in this team and believe we will get it together quickly."

Burnett went 6-for-14 from the field, leading the Beacons with 15 points. Keenan Reckamp added seven points while Rylan Donovan came off the bench to score six points and a game-high nine rebounds, including six cleanups on the offensive glass.

Carroll was led by Isaac Round, scoring 22 points as he went 4-for-5 from three-point range. Drew Jones added 14 points and six assists while Josiah Cuaresma scored 11.

Up Next: Bushnell will head to Great Falls this weekend where they will take on the University of Providence at 5:00 pm (MT) on Friday. Providence will host a neutral site contest between Bushnell and Montana State Northern on Saturday 1:00 pm (MT).

"This is a hard-working group," said Coach Alexander, "and we are still learning to play together. We are searching for the right combinations to play our best basketball consistently. We have to put this one behind us and we have already moved on to focusing on Friday. No time to hang our heads."
