Beacons Compete Again at House of Track

PORTLAND, Ore.  – The Northwest Christian University women's track & field team returned to the House of Track in Portland on Friday night, taking part in the final TrackTown USA High Performance meet of the season.

Shaneesa Applegate had another strong day in the 60m Hurdle, showing marked improvement in two races. First, she hit a 9.34 in the preliminary round, earning a spot in the final. Then, in the final she broke her own PR once again with a time of 9.29, earning seventh place.

Cassandra Brownell (pictured) competed in her first 200m event of the season on Friday night. The freshman from Cove, Oregon reestablished the school record for the emerging program as she ran a 28.81.

The final event for the Beacons was the 4x400 relay, featuring Brownell, freshmen Myranda Johnson and Brianna Wood, and sophomore Haley Damian. The crew posted a fourth-place time of 4:27.36 to establish NCU's best indoor mark. The time represents the seventh-fastest time in school history, including outdoor marks.

NCU will close out the brief inaugural indoor season next Sunday when they travel to compete in the University of Washington Open.
