EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team snared a three-set victory over Oregon Tech on Friday night, 25-18, 25-19, 29-27. The win gave NCU their first-ever season sweep of the Owls and pushed the Beacons to seven conference victories for the first time in school history.
The Beacons (14-10, 7-7 CCC) hit .306 on the night, out-playing OIT on nearly all levels. NCU held a 47-31 advantage in kills, a 61-45 dig margin and a 5-1 edge in blocks.
Tami Brown led the Beacons with a double-double, posting 12 kills and 12 digs as she hit .320, adding a team-high pair of service aces.
Maren Mansfield (pictured) was also swinging well on Friday, collecting eleven kills while
Janel Fetters added seven kills and a team-best .429 attack percentage.
Cori Wallace had 21 assists and ten digs while
Alyssa Dorr posted 18 assists.
Dana McGowan led all players with 22 digs.
Head Coach Mike Gaffaney said, “This was a huge win for us. We had a tremendous amount of goals to achieve and we accomplished them all. We held their top hitter in the negative, we sided out well and we attacked well and that isn't something we've put together in the same match throughout conference play.”
Oregon Tech (10-16, 2-11) was led by Kara Young with 12 kills and seven digs. Krista Galloway hit .705 going 6-for-8 without an error and Maria Baumann collected 18 digs.
The win, coupled with a loss for Northwest University, pushes the Beacons back into sixth place. NCU leads the Eagles by a half game with four CCC matches remaining. Northwest Christian will return to action on Saturday afternoon with a 1:00 matinee against Southern Oregon University. Oregon Tech travels to Salem to take on Corban University at 7:00 pm.
