PORTLAND, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women's soccer team played a man down for over 71 minutes and the Concordia University Cavaliers outshot the Beacons 35-1 as they rolled to a 5-0 victory in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Monday night.
Northwest Christian (1-12, 1-5 CCC) got a first-half shot from
Karli Vath, which would be the extent of the offensive output against one of the best teams in the NAIA.
Ali Foster finished the night with seven saves for the Beacons between the pipes.
Alex Thomas got CU on the board first in the 16th minute, scoring from five yards out off a pass from Adrienne Lommasson. Less than three minutes later, the Cavaliers got a breakaway opportunity. NCU's last defender pulled down the player from behind, resulting in an automatic redcard and a free-kick from just outside the goalie box. Brittany Orr took the kick and put it home for the second goal.
NCU hung tough, despite giving up 14 first-half shots, holding the Cavaliers to just the two goals during the first 45 minutes. The Beacons began to wear down in the second half as Concordia flexed it's depth. The Beacons were not only playing a man down after the red card, but with a limited bench, had only 13 players take the field on the night, compared to 22 for CU.
The Cavaliers (11-3-1, 6-0) scored in the 54th minute when Annika Hayman found Alex Blalock. In the 77th minute it was Lommasson on the assist once again, this time feeding Erin Huisingh. Finally, in the 81st minute, Jackie Hendrickson scored on a corner kick with assists going to Huisingh and Kellie Skofstad.
The Beacons will be back in action on Saturday with the final home game of the season. The Beacons will host Corban University at 3:00 pm. Pre-game ceremonies will honor eight seniors on the 2011 NCU roster.
