EUGENE, Ore. – Northwest Christian is still looking for their first win of the season after a 3-0 loss on Thursday to Western Oregon University. The Wolves scored just nine minutes into the game and cruised to the win as they outshot the Beacons 24-8.
Rachelle Kliewer scored the eventual game-winner at the 8:58 mark, of a pass from Marina Austin, giving WOU a 1-0 lead. Western scored again in the 16th minute when Kym Witmer fired a shot at the top of the box, off a pass from Kliewer.
The final goal came on a corner kick with just over five minutes to play as Parisah Mongaddampar punched in a pass from Jill Peterson, after the corner kick came in from Shelby Solomon.
The Beacons (0-4-1) took five shots on goal on the evening, getting two apiece from
Kori Wilgus and
Brittney Yip.
Ali Foster had a strong night in goal, facing the 24-shot barrage. She saw 14 shots on goal, and made eleven saves. Head Coach
Katie Casebeer said, “Ali made some unbelievable saves tonight. The score would have been higher had it not been for some amazing work from her back there.”
Coach Casebeer also singled out freshman reserve Allie Bissett for playing a strong role up front for the Beacons on Thursday. She said, “Allie came off the bench ready to play tonight and worked really hard. She doesn't get intimidated by going up against taller girls and she continues to be a spark for us.”
The Beacons will be back in action on Friday night as they travel to Klamath Falls for a neutral-site game against Mills College, hosted by Oregon Tech at 5:00 pm.
