EUGENE, Ore. – The Warner Pacific Knights got the better of the Beacons on both sides of a double-header Sunday, knocking off Bushnell with 6-3 and 6-4 wins.
Bushnell, fighting for a spot in the Cascade Collegiate Conference tournament, fell to 21-19 on the season and 13-14 in the CCC as they currently sit in fourth-place. The Knights improve to 14-25, 7-19 CCC.
GAME ONE: Warner Pacific 6, Bushnell 3
The Beacons out-hit WPU 10-6 in the opener, but were only able to push three runs across as they left ten runners on base, including stranding the bases loaded in the seventh.
Chase Nye led the way with four hits including two doubles while
Dylan Carson also hit a pair of two-baggers. The Beacons were trailing 6-0 before finding the plate in the fifth when a
Nigel Fahland double scored
Eli Pupo. The scored two more in the sixth on one of Carson's doubles and an RBI groundout for Pupo.
Kai Keamo (4-4) took the loss, giving up all six earned runs on three strikeouts in 3.1 innings.
Jacob Courtney closed the game with his best relief effort of the season, going 4.2 innings and striking out four without allowing a hit. He pitched to just one over the minimum and after hitting the first batter he faced, retired 13 straight before a walk in the ninth.
GAME TWO: Warner Pacific 6, Bushnell 4
Nate Stevens (pictured) gave the Beacons a 3-2 lead in the top of the third with his CCC-leading 13th home run of the season. Jaden Thompson added an RBI on a groundout in the sixth to make it 4-2, but the Knights were able to rally, scoring four in the bottom of the sixth.
Griffin Sanchez (1-4) struck out four batters but gave up for earned runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings to take the loss. Another strong bullpen outing came from
Chase Marshall, who closed the final 2.1 innings, striking out two and not allowing a hit.
Fahland was the only Beacon with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
