MILWAUKIE, Ore. – A run-rule victory on Sunday morning helped Bushnell avoid the sweep as they salvaged one victory from a four-game weekend with Warner Pacific University
GAME ONE: Bushnell 12, Warner Pacific 2 (7 Innings)
The Beacons dominated the morning sessions against the Knights, pounding out 13 hits across just seven innings of work as their ten-run lead evoked the mercy rule.
The biggest bats belonged to
Nate Stevens (3-for-4) and
Danny Womack (3-for-5). Stevens collected two RBI and hit his CCC-leading 14th home run of the season and placing him just one behind the Bushnell single-season record. Womack added a triple and had three RBI on a pair of singles.
Albert Jennings added two hits out of the leadoff spot and capped off a seven-run sixth inning for the Beacons with a bases-clearing double.
Austin Wolfe (6-3) (pictured) went 5 innings to earn the win, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out four.
Micah English and
Chaz Kantola each pitched no-hit innings of relief.
GAME TWO: Warner Pacific 2, Bushnell 1
The Knights escaped with a walk-off win in game four, clinching the series victory was a pinch-hit RBI single by Ezra Vice against
Tyler Biddinger (0-1).
The pitching duel included just two single runs in the top and bottom of the third inning before the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. For the Beacons,
DJ Kauahi went seven strong, allowing one run on four hits while striking out seven. Mason Deverna (3-5) led the Knights with a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 12 Beacons.
Bushnell's only run came in the third on a solo home run from Jennings.
UP NEXT: The Beacons (22-20, 14-15 CCC) hold a slim half-game lead over Oregon Tech for fourth-place in the CCC with two weekends remaining the regular season. The top-five in the conference will qualify for the post-season and the Beacons are currently three-and-half games ahead of Corban for the final spot. Bushnell returns home next weekend for their final home games, playing host to Lewis-Clark State College beginning at 2:00 pm on Friday.
