SPOKANE, Wash. – A full flock of Beacons were in action at The Podium in Spokane over the weekend for the Riverfront Invitational, where the festivities were highlighted by five school record, one new NAIA qualification.
Â
The qualification came in the men's triple jump where
Ty Kishen had his best-ever performance, taking second-place with a leap of 14.51m (47-07.25). His "B" standard was just one centimeter short of the Beacon school-record, held by
Jermaine Schexnayder, who came in close behind Kishen in third place (14.39m/47-02.50).
Â
Leading the record breaking was
Taylor Jackson in the High Jump as he took second-place on Friday with a school-record breaking leap of 2.00m (6-06.75). He missed the NAIA "B" qualifying standard by just four centimeters and added two CMs to the Beacon record previously held by teammate
Jermaine Schexnayder. Schexnayder finished sixth in the event, posting a season-best 1.95m (6-04.75), while Elliott Nofziger took ninth-place with a PR mark of 1.80m (5-10.75).
Â
On the women's side,
Aniya Green tied the school record in the 200m on Friday, crossing the finish line in 26.42 seconds to equal the mark previously set in 2019. The women's 200m event also included seven other personal records that were either established or broken.
Â
On Saturday, Senior
Brett Olmstead conquered a nine-year old record in the Pole Vault by nearly 16 inches, taking fifth-place with a clearance of 4.50 meters (14-09.00).
Â
The final two school record were both claimed by junior
Maxwell Al-Rubaie who tackled his own records in the hammer (14.77m/48-05.50) and the shot put (12.38m/40-07.50).
Â
It was a strong meet for many Bushnell athletes with nearly 70 personal records either broken or established over two days of competition. Highlights included:
Â
- On Friday, eight broken or established new personal records in the men's 200m. Leading the charge was Blake Thornton whose time of 22.86 seconds was the seventh-fastest in school history and best in three years.
- Freshman Aliyah Malone made her collegiate debut on Friday in the high jump with a 1.48m (4-10.75) clearance. It was the third-best mark in school history and the best in seven years. She followed that up with the sixth-fastest 60-meter hurdle performance of all-time with a 9.72.
- Cyan Kelso-Reynolds posted a 7.99 in the 60-meter dash, becoming just the second Bushnell runner ever to break the eight-second barrier. Her time was the second-fastest in school history.
- Viktoriia Gabrio made the most of her collegiate Triple Jump debut, coming within one centimeter of the school record with a leap of 10.35m (33-11.50). It was Bushnell's best women's indoor triple-jump mark since the school record of 10.36m was established in 2019.
