Box Score 2 SANTA CLARITA, Calif.– The Bushnell baseball team one again took a game-one victory over The Master's University on Saturday, only to get shutout in the back end of the double-header to claim a split.
Â
Head Coach
Jamie Womack said, "We fought and clawed in game one and we were never out of it. The pitching staff competed hard. In game two we just had another let down and were unable to adjust and recover."
Â
GAME ONE: Bushnell 7, The Master's 6
Â
Dylan Carson hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning, lifting the Beacons to the victory.
Â
Bushnell had earned multiple leads throughout the day, but the Mustangs came back each time.
Â
Six pitchers saw action for the Beacons, combining for nine strikeouts.
Jacob Courtney got the start, giving up one run in three innings of work with
Griffin Sanchez following that up with three K's over two scoreless innings.
Â
Chase Marshall (1-0) took the victory for the Beacons despite allowing three in the bottom of the eighth while
DJ Kauahi closed out the ninth inning to record the save.
Â
Bushnell collected eight hits throughout the contest, getting two apiece from Carson,
Max Richards,
Albert Jennings, and
Nigel Fahland.
Â
GAME TWO: The Master's 4, Bushnell 0 (7 innings)
Â
Kai Keamo (pictured) gave Bushnell one of the best pitching performances in school history in the afternoon, only to see the offense go cold in their second shutout in as many days. Keamo struck out the first eight batters he faced and finished with 11 K's in four innings. Unfortunately he took the loss with two earned runs.
Â
"Kai threw his heart out today," said Womack, "and if he keeps giving us those efforts I am confident in our ability to respond better next time."
Â
The Beacons collected just four hits, including a 2-for-3 game for
Chase Nye.
Â
UP NEXT: The Beacons (5-3) return home next weekend for another four-game set, this time against NCAA Division II Saint Martin's University. Friday's double-header is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
